The Sunday Swim was Naturist London's core event which ran for almost 8 years from April 2012 until the start of the Covid-19 lockdown in March 2020. You can find the original web-page describing the event here.
Sadly, what was expected to be a temporary closure has become a permanent one. In April 2021, it was announced that the University of London would transfer the whole of the former ULU building to Birkbeck (formerly Birkbeck College) and that the latter had no intention to continue maintaining and running the sports complex including the iconic 33m pool, which has been home to our event.
The Sunday Swim ran as a joint venture between British Naturism and Naturist London volunteers; BN hired the pool and handled financial aspects, while NL (many of whom were not BN members) took care of day to day operations. The Swim was very popular with attendance averaging over 70. The largest number of swimmers attending a single session was 122 on 19th February 2017. It was also financially lucrative. This clearly demonstrates the extent of the demand for nude swimming in London. Any pool owners seeking ways to boost their takings should take note of this, and are warmly invited to get in touch, if we can assist in any way.
Many people are eager to see our regular, open access, naked swimming sessions resume, but the search for a suitable and willing venue is likely to prove challenging.
